Art Model Shannon is a Ventura County fine porcelain artist; fine art photographer and fine art model. Shannon’s journey into the world of art started later than most and is somewhat unusual. With no prior experience or exposure to art, she dove head first into the vast and beautiful world of art in 2014.
At age 45, she began her journey into art as a fine art model for painters and sculptors as a way to honor the memory and last wishes of her friend Susie , who had encouraged and inspired her to begin art modeling prior to her untimely death at age 39 from bile duct cancer.
Shannon began photographing landscapes, still life and expressive self-portraits in 2015, as a way to cope with severe menopause symptoms and the death of her friend. Her self portrait photography ranges from nude fine art to surrealist type portraits. Her work has been compared to Joel Peter Witkin and she has been well received in the art community as a fine art photographer, as well as porcelain artist.
In 2017 at the age of 48, Shannon survived two heart attacks, the first which she had while driving and the second later the same day after experiencing an instant re-thrombosis. At the encouragement of Shelley Rogers, a friend and sculptor whom she regularly models for, she learned the basics of clay/porcelain at Shelley’s home studio. It wasn’t long before she began creating intricate, detailed porcelain figurines. Her porcelain work is a mix of Victorian era meets surrealism.
Shannon is not one to shy away from social, political or ethical issues within her body of work. Her narrative work ranges from internet addiction in young children to sexual assault in women./children. She is a feminist and true body acceptance advocate. She promotes body acceptance and inclusiveness of all body types/sexes/ages in her photography work.
Shannon began exhibiting her porcelain figurines in December 2018 and currently exhibits monthly at Bell Arts Factory in Ventura, CA. where she has sold numerous pieces of her porcelain work. She is also currently exhibiting her porcelain figurines in numerous, juried Fine Art shows around Southern California. To date, she has also sold several of her fine art landscape/ still life photographs. Shannon looks forward to growing as an artist over the coming years and expanding her knowledge and skills. She loves bringing beauty to the world around her through her creative work, while showing others how to overcome great adversity and life challenges.
Shannon is a mother of three adult children. She has also been a nurse for 30 years and continues to work part time in the nursing field, where she currently educates patients on women’s heart health and educates women on warning signs/symptoms of a heart attack and how to survive one. She presently resides in Oxnard, California with her husband of 19 years, Michael, who is her biggest cheerleader and supporter.
