Robert Hildebrand received his degree in photography from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara and went on to a career in fashion photography in New York, Paris and San Francisco, working for department stores such as Macy’s, and his photographic work was featured in magazines( Harpers Bazaar, Vogue).
Returning to Santa Barbara in the mid eighties, he began to be interested in fine art, with emphasis always on the human figure. After a short fling with sculpture, Robert continued his exploration, developing monumental cross hatched drawings/ paintings of the female figure. At the same time, with smaller compositions, a more minimalist style emerged and segued towards gestural line drawings. He has also included some of his acrylic paintings on canvas of a vacation in Italy in today’s display.
