Lauren Kapphahn is an American artist and marine scientist fascinated with the ecology and natural history of the places that shape us. The self-taught artist began dabbling in paint around 2010 and jewelry in 2012 before opening the Rockside Studio in 2020; a mobile exposition highlighting the importance of sustainability and ocean conservation. Drawing from her experiences as a biologist, Lauren often ties ecological messages to her works to inspire coastal conservation. Her works explore the places we live as they were or how they could be often highlighting calm in a moment of chaos through vivid floral and fluid coastal themes. Studio proceeds support her goal to encourage local seaweed aquaculture to remediate coastal waters in Southern California.
