Dave Gardner

Born in the High Desert area of Southern California, Dave discovered at an early age the power of clean natural landscapes, finding himself influenced early on by the emerging environmental movement. Today, working in the artistic mediums of contemporary multimedia painting, sculpture, abstract textiles, landscape design, custom cabinetry, and Bonsai, Dave’s work contains elements, themes and/or is influenced by the outdoor landscape, recycling, or unused objects.

Dave enjoys finding objects, and then transforming them into useful and artistic objects.  Once called “scavenging,” today this movement is known as repurposing, recycling, or just being “Green”. Dave utilizes either recycled wood or wood repurposed from the trees of the Urban Forest in his varied cabinetry, woodworking projects and photography.

During his early education, Dave studied Photography. Keeping with his artistic point of view, his photographic work also focuses on the abstract, taking objects that are traditionally under appreciated and rarely observed.
Educated in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Photography, Botany, and Arboriculture, Dave graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BS degree in Horticulture. Dave’s continued studies include graduate work in Horticulture, at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand, and a MA Degree in Organizational Leadership at Woodbury University.

Dave currently lives by the ocean in Mandalay Shores Ca., with his two dogs and cat. (All rescues!).
