Christina Altfeld

Born and raised in Sweden, Christina Altfeld emigrated to the United States when 11 years old. She was gifted a camera, which not only sparked an early love for art in her life, but also served as a form of visual expression as she navigated her new home and language.

She is a self-taught photographer and supplemented with coursework at UCLA. Upon discovering printmaking, she attended classes at Santa Barbara City College and workshops with master printmakers; Dan Weldon and Michael McCabe.

Having lived in Maui for 15 years, Christina now resides on the coast in Ventura County, California.

An avid volunteer, her efforts include teaching workshops to foster youth at Free Arts for Abused Children in LA.

She was an artist-in-residence at Channel Islands Maritime Museum. There, she created a hand printed book that used letters written to her grandparents to share her experiences as she traveled to the US by boat.

She has been featured in exhibits both locally and internationally. In addition, her work is part of the permanent collection at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA. She is a juried member of the California Society of Printmakers, Los Angeles Printmaking Society, Santa Barbara Printmakers, and Buenaventura inkspots.

Currently, Christina is exploring new methods of layering images while using numerous printmaking methods on a single work of art.
